4D Ultrasound

A 4D ultrasound is a non-diagnostical ultrasound (this scan cannot tell you if the baby has any abnormality).
It is a 3 dimensional image of your baby combined with the live real-time motion is obtained. This is a sneak peak
of what your baby is going to look like. Almost like a photoshoot before your baby is born.

  • The best time to perform a 4D ultrasound is between 26 weeks and 34 week gestation.
  • Although I will always do my utmost best to get the best images, the quality of the 3D/4D ultrasound picture depends on the position of the baby and the amount of amniotic fluid. A 4D ultrasound is produced only in the areas where the amniotic fluid touch the baby’s skin. If the baby is not in a favourable position or if there is not enough amniotic fluid, it is sometimes not possible to obtain good quality pictures.
  • The number and length of 4D mini-recordings are determined by your baby’s position on the day and our compliance with professional safety guidelines. We therefore operate the As Low As Reasonably Achievable (ALARA) principle i.e. we use the minimum ultrasound scanning exposure time and system settings to fulfil the primary purpose of the scan and always endeavour to provide you with a satisfying and varied amount of mini-recordings and photos on the day.
  • In case that your baby is not in a favourable position to get an image you will be asked either, to go for a walk and come back a bit later or a follow up appointment will be arranged (this will be at no additional costs).
  • Remember a 4D ultrasound is not a diagnostic examination and is only “photoshoot” of your baby.
  • Unfortunately we do not claim 3D and 4D ultrasounds form the medical aid. You will be responsible to pay for the ultrasound.
  • If your medical aid states that they will pay for a 4D scan, you still have to pay and we will provide you with the paperwork that you can claim it back from the medical aid yourself.
  • 45 minute appointment
  • Growth report with fetal weight estimation and the estimate due date
  • Confirming the gender of the fetus.
  • At least 8 sepia colour 3D pictures taken throughout your scan.
  • At a small extra cost, you will receive USB with all the recorded mini-clips and photos of the examination for your keepsake.
