Abdominal Ultrasound
An abdominal ultrasound is often required by your doctor when you are experiencing the following symptoms: abdominal pain or discomfort, nausea, vomiting or abdominal swelling. You may also be referred for an abdominal ultrasound if you have abnormal blood tests results of your liver, kidneys, prostate etc.
The following organs can be evaluated with an abdominal ultrasound:
Liver, gall bladder, bile ducts, spleen, pancreas, kidneys, bladder, prostate gland, aorta, abdominal glands, uterus and ovaries.
An abdominal ultrasound may also be performed to rule out an appendicitis.
Note: Stomach and bowel cannot be evaluated with ultrasound.
