A pelvic ultrasound will be requested if you experience lower abdominal pain or abnormal menstrual bleeding.  A pelvic ultrasound can also be performed as a routine examination.

The following organs can be evaluated with a pelvic scan:

Bladder, uterus, ovaries and surrounding soft tissue.

A pelvic ultrasound can be performed transabdominal (from the top of your stomach) or transvaginal (an internal ultrasound)
